We started this in October 2023 initially as a pop-up shop while we were getting the Art Centre up and running to provide goods and to fundraise. It became extremely popular because it provides essential items at a very affordable price and it’s relatively easy to run. The community decided to keep it going. People donating goods go through our partner the Remote Op Shops project and directly post most items to us. This enables the Op Shop to avoid the huge cost of getting things to our community. We volunteer to run the shop. We try to open most Fridays. We are very grateful and humbled by the generosity of the donations that we get.
We currently operate out of an old community shed with no power, no water, no toilets or a door but we are good. We have fun! The Op Shop has become a bit of a community hub.
This building is our soon to be renovated Art Centre and Gallery.
We are doing a lot of thinking about recycling Op Shop things into art.
