Inkwareny
Buy ArtworkInkwareny Artists is the Anmatyerr people of Yuelamu’s new art centre and gallery.
We formed in October 2023. Our goal is that through art, Anmatyerr culture is strong. Inkwareny Artists is conceived by us, seed funded by us, led and operated by us with 100% of monies going back to community, directly to artists and to operate our social enterprise.
Inkwareny means honey ant in Anmaryerr.
Our Artists
We are the descendants of a strong painting tradition including the original dot painters from Papunya such as our ancestor Clifford Possum. We are bush people, extremely knowledgeable of our country, earth, plants, insects and animals. We are informed by lifetimes of living in country and driven by our Angnekerr (Anmatyerr word for dreaming). Our language and Angnekerr stories are strong. We are story tellers and story painters.
Country and people
We are Anmatyerr people right in the centre of Australia at Yuelamu. We are strongly related to people in Laramba and Ti Tree Communities. Many of us are also part Walpiri (to the west). Our country is several hundred kilometres north west of Mparntwe/Alice Springs, situated on the old Mt Allan Station, at the western edge of Anmatyerr boundaries. We are also the descendants of the survivors of the Coniston massacre in 1928. We speak Anmatyerr, Warlpiri and English.
We are friendly and welcoming and proud.
Our Gallery
We will have a wonderful physical gallery that shows our work, when we get our building renovated. The building works are slowly coming in Yuelamu. When it is ready, we will invite you all to come and visit.
Currently our artwork is available here on the website gallery.
OUR LATEST ARTWORKS
Deeply inspired by country to keep Angnekerr (dreaming) strong, here is our latest art:
Featured Artist
Shonelle paints her father’s father’s dreaming. Shonelle’s painting style pays particular attention to detail and colour producing immaculate work. She is deeply inspired and connected to her songlines of Angerr (stone curlew) and Arnperrk (Centipede), Rwamp (sugarbag) and Nymaty Anengkerr (witchetty grub dreaming).

ABOUT YUELAMU
We are a very remote community 3 hours drive north west of Mparntwe/Alice Springs up the Tanami Road on the Yalpirakina Aboriginal Land Trust. The community of Yuelamu and outstations are situated on the old Mt Allan Station. Our country is at the western edge of Anmatyerr boundaries. We are about 200 Anmatyerr people. In our community we have limited services including a K-12 school, a two day a week health clinic, council services and a store. We have restricted drinking water but we are rich in country and culture.

The community of Yuelamu at the moment is really quiet between the Easter holidays …
We are preparing an exhibition in April in Hepburn, Victoria.
We went bush shopping with Lisa Mpetyan Cook and Elsie Mpetyan Moore.
It’s always a pure joy to find objects to recycle. The artists love it and they are very creative in recycling these objects.
My sweet, beautiful Daisy Pengard Frank. Every morning, she waits impatiently for someone to pick her up from her home. She transmits this joy to us on canvas because her color palette is always very juicy. I love your colors, Daisy thank you so much to joining us every day 🥰👏🏼

The artists are happy to have their work showcased. We hope our guests will buy some of their paintings.
This is the incredible work of Shonnelle Pwerrerl Stanford. This large painting was created using natural ochre pigments. Shonnelle is an important member of the community, always caring and looking after everyone. She is our Chair Director at Inkwareny, and we are very happy to have her as our boss. #inkwarenyartists #yuelamu
