Inkwareny Artists of Yuelamu is looking for a studio coordinator!

About the Role

Reporting to the Manager, the Studio Coordinator will work closely with artists and art workers to manage the day-to-day studio operations of the art centre.

Responsible for maintaining studio equipment and art supplies [including kiln operations], managing a busy production schedule and facilitating the delivery of a high standard exhibition program. The role will also facilitate the development and implementation of projects including hunting and bush trips. The role will require travel for art fairs, exhibitions and other relevant events.

This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a skilled ceramicist or creative who would like to experience life in a remote community and join us in our forming stage through exploring different art forms [painting, wood, ceramics and textiles] that develop our artistic niche.

You will need to be highly motivated, have both project management and ceramic/practical skills. You must have well developed listening and communication skills and be able to work effectively in a busy and distracting environment. Respect and understanding of cross-cultural environments and the ability to work with First Nations artists safely and respectfully is essential. Knowledge of contemporary Aboriginal art and business is also desirable.

Terms

This position is offered full time [$75-$85,000pa, plus superannuation] however we are open to block employment [ e.g. three months on site, one month not working or some such arrangement]. This would suit a practicing artist who wants to maintain their own studio practice. We are looking for people that aspire to an ongoing relationship with our community.

You will work onsite in the Yuelamu community. Fully furnished accommodation with utilities is provided.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People are strongly encouraged to apply.

We will offer successful candidates a two-week trial to fully understand the position, its challenges and opportunities.

Position to start February 2026.
